https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elhdZyZzJTgPuzzle Quest! - a crazy experiment in university learning.
The challenge was how to still get the students to carry out the various learning activities of the course, despite them not being worth marks.
Richard talks about a teaching experiment conducted at UNSW (The University of New South Wales in Sydney Australia) in 2011. All the in-course summative assessment was dropped in a large first year computing course, yet students still engaged (wholeheartedly) in all the learning activities which in previous semesters had contributed to the final grade.
